Massage
There are many forms of massage and massage techniques, the technique which is used will depend on the type of injury and issue that you present with. Some common techniques include; soft tissue massage, deep tissue massage, effleurage, frictioning and trigger point release.
The purpose of massage is to; increase blood flow and circulation to the area, relax the muscle, break up scar tissue, assist with lymphatic drainage and to decrease pain.
Massage is used in a lot of physiotherapy sessions however is always complimented with other treatment techniques to achieve the best outcomes. Some common injuries that massage is used for include; stiff neck and shoulders, lower back pain, sprained ankles to help move the swelling and speed up recovery.
