Taping/Strapping

Taping and strapping is most commonly associated with sport, however it is also very effective in postural education.

Taping has a number of roles including: stabilization for sprained ligaments and loose joints, increases proprioceptive feedback (the messages from the skin to the brain) to help improve posture and finally taping can help support injuries of the muscle or tendon units.

There are two main types of taping: The first is Rigid tape, this is the tape most people would be familiar with, it is inflexible and helps to hold joints stable. The second, more recent tape, is kinesio tape, this tape has an elastic capacity which allows for postural training and greater proprioceptive feedback.
